One of eight children born to Marianna Vigorito and Luigi D'Agosto.   Emigrated from Gioi Cilento, Italy to the United States thru Ellis Island , arriving on the Sardegna on March 30, 1903 (source: www.ellisisland.org) at the age of 17.  He had 7 children: Louis, Marion, Nicholas II (a baby who died as an infant), Margaret, Nicholas Jr., Nettie and Mildred. He was involved in real estate sales and other business enterprises.   He was considered an excellent businessman and a good provider.  He was killed with his wife tragically in a fire while painting a stove in his house at 375 Ocean Ave. in Jersey City.
